Why is the DA2930003G Different?

I can interchange the other internal Samsung fridge filters but not the DA29 3G

Samsung “internal” filters are small, fat, tub-like filters that slot into a recess inside the fridge – usually in the top right compartment.

They are commonly known as “DA29 internals” and come with a few different codes such as the DA29-0003, the DA29-0003F or the DA29-0003B and so on. It didn’t really matter what the exact code was, They all did the same thing and could all be interchanged with each other.

However in recent years Samsung have confused things by creating a new type of DA29 internal filter – the DA29-0003G.

The 3G has slightly different keyways / locking lugs so doesn’t interchange with the others.

The other Samsung filters types only have 2 slots.

BUT not all Samsung 3Gs have these 3 slots. SOME of them use the old 2 slot system.

This has caused a lot of confusion in the market. The story is that Samsung did this inadvertently by having 2 separate factories – in 2 different countries – make the newer fridges that accepted the DA29 3G filters.

One, in Mexico,is supposed to serve only the US market. Another factory, which we think is in China, makes the other types of fridges for the rest of the world.

So there are two different types of filters with the same DA29-0000-3G code!

The “true” 3G filter is the one with 3 slots. let’s call this the 3G “Type A”.

The “mistaken” 3G filters ie that have 2 slots – like other internal Samsung types – let’s call this the 3G “Type B”.

We’ve been told that even Samsung aren’t sure which type fits which fridge.

Apparently they have said that there are a small number of fridges – reportedly 1,200 – that will ONLY accept the “Type A’s” – with 3 slots. But judging from the issues we’ve seen, we think the problem probably affects many more fridges than the claimed 1,200 (And to add to the confusion some of the fridges intended for the USA seem to have ended up in Europe and elsewhere!).

How can you tell which 3G filter fits your fridge?

Simply check your existing filter. (You can remove it from the fridge and put it back again)
